roryAs the holidays approach, it’s tempting to include your pet in the festivities by slipping them an extra treat or two from the table. Before you do this, be aware of everyday food which may be safe for humans and dogs, can be fatal to the felines in your life.

Onions and garlic: These two common ingredients can cause digestive distress. Onions can actually cause anemia in both dogs and cats, which can lead to death. Look for onions or onion powder in a list of ingredients!

Grapes: Grapes can cause kidney failure in both dogs and cats.

Raw fish: Kitty may like the smell of salmon, but raw fish can be loaded with bacteria that can create digestive upset.

Liver: I don’t know about you, but my cat and dogs used to love the “innards” of a turkey at Thanksgiving time. While a little liver is okay as a treat, an excess amount can cause vitamin A toxicity, which affects your cat’s bones. There’s a lot more information in this
